This weekend I’ll be driving the course opening car at !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . (Woo hoo!) Today I’ve confirmed that I will not be driving my BRZ, but my first press car, arranged through !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . (Woo hoo again!) What’s it going to be? Take a wild guess. I assure you that it is NOT another !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ! I’ll reveal the answer on Wednesday.
UPDATED WITH HINTS!
It is not specifically the vehicle under this cover. It was just a convenient “mystery car” picture to use.
It is not a competition rally vehicle.
It is not ElanaR’s Jeep Liberty that we drove for sweep at ESPR last year.
It is not a WRX. That would be too obvious.
It is a vehicle with a highly successful rally history immediately after it first came out.

That would be too obvious...

If it was one of these, I would happily floor it over the jumps on Goose Pond until it broke in half..

Yellow is only the third fastest color, after red (second fastest) and World Rally Blue (fastest).

Those are some interesting choices you have there.

Assuming gold is a type of yellow, does that mean WRB Subaru’s are slowed down by their gold wheel?

It is not a competition vehicle.

I should have guessed a red Jeep liberty...

Looks like a new TT to me.

I don’t think an NSX would rally very well.

I would guess, but I already know. :)

Press car, so new. Successful rally car right when it came out meaning not lately. Press car at a rally so presumably the target audience is rally fans. Clearly you are driving a Focus RS as a course opening car!

Have any journalists actually driven a Focus RS yet? It may be a bit soon for that. But the Focus RS may not be entirely unrelated to what I’ll be driving...
Reveal tomorrow!

I don't know if it's been driven by the press yet, but figure it's got to be close. Since I can see them aiming for the STI/Evo crowd a first outing at a rally makes sense to me.
![]() 09/15/2015 at 21:54 |

Yep, it would definitely make sense. Not a Focus RS, I’m afraid.
![]() 09/17/2015 at 09:07 |

I knew I had just read an article about the RS, but it wasn’t a drive it was a ride along. The latest Top Gear they had a short article about a ride along they had with Ken Block at Goodwood.
I saw your post yesterday about it being a Mustang. I didn’t realize that it had met with success in rally in its early days.

You were close - it’s a Mustang with the same engine that the Focus RS will have!
Ford Falcons were extremely successful rally cars in Europe in the early 1960s. Since the first Mustang was heavily based on the Falcon, it was pretty simple to apply the same proven modifications to the new car and have a winner right out of the box.
